The Ministry of Manpower urges employers to carefully assess their manpower needs to determine whether accommodation needs to be arranged for affected Malaysian employees.

The Ministry of Manpower issued a statement saying that employers should encourage affected employees to temporarily live with relatives, friends or colleagues in Singapore. If that doesn’t work, the government has worked with relevant parties in the private and public sectors to provide short-term accommodation for employees in need, including hotels or staff quarters, and government flats or private residential units or rooms. Authorities said they would work with hotel and dormitory operators to provide low-cost accommodation for these employees.

The Ministry of Manpower stated that companies in the necessary facilities and services sectors will be given priority in obtaining accommodation arrangements, including medical, security, cleaning, waste management, facility management, logistics and transportation.
The government is also exploring the provision of financial assistance for companies in urgent need of accommodation arrangements. Details will be announced shortly.
