From April 15th, the “+” sign in front of the area code of all Singapore local phone numbers will not be displayed. Only international calls will have “+” sign displayed.

In the congressional budget, the senior minister of communications and information said that it was easy to identify fraudulent calls. At the same time, the Information and Media Development Bureau cooperated with telecommunications companies to scam incoming calls, blocking international calls with caller IDs of 999 and 995.

Relevant authorities will continue to take cooperative measures. The Ministry of Communications and Information also works closely with other agencies of the Interdepartmental Commission on Fraud to strengthen its response capabilities.

In addition, the government plans to amend the Personal Data Protection Act this year. The proposed amendments include: Institutions involved in information transfer events must notify opponents and the Personal Data Protection Committee to give the committee more enforcement powers.
